Americanism Elementary Poster Contest
For its first year, the Pinelands Chapter participated in the Americanism Elementary Poster Contest. It was a big success with the majority of the fifth grade at the Manchester Township Elementary School taking part. The participants conducted research in the computer room on this years theme “The Battle of Cowpens”, with the help of their computer lab teacher. Then the students went to work. The first round of judging was handled by the class room teachers and the art teacher. All were excellent, but only one could be passed along to the State Chapter and that winner being passed along to the National Competition in Louisville, Kentucky. The Pinelands Chapter winner Cody Fairbanks was also the State winner. He will receive a $50.00 US Savings bond for his efforts at the Chapter level. He is in the running at the National level for one of three prizes a $100.00, $200.00 or $300.00 Educational Savings Bond. Congratulations Cody and good luck at the Nationals. Check back after July to see how he has done.
Pictured above is Cody's winning poster. To see all of the posters judged, visit the Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library during the month of July, where they will be displayed in the civic room.
The Pinelands Chapter presents JROTC certificates and medals to various students every year at Manchester Township High School, Brick High School, Southern Regional High School, Jackson Township High School Neptune High School and Wall Township High School. We also honor "Eagle Scouts" who have completed a Revolutionary War Project. Click here for the 2011 winners.
